About
Fucking the Text Man For Texts is a catchphrase that originated in a tweet mocking people who judge others for the reasons they choose sexual partners. Since it was first tweeted in 2017, the phrase has often been cited as one of the best on Twitter by many users in addition to becoming a phrasal template with the template "Fucking the X man for X."
Origin
On October 17th, 2017, Twitter user @FabDLT_[1] tweeted, "'Eww she fuck the weed man for weed' – a bitch that's fucking the Text man for Texts." It appears her account has since been deleted, though it received over 7,700 likes and 2,700 retweets before its deletion (seen below).
Spread
In the five years since the tweet has been posted, it has often been cited as one of the best tweets on the site according to numerous Twitter users. For example, on November 18th, 2018, Twitter user @imbobswaget[2] posted that they hoped the tweet "ends up in the Smithsonian," gaining over 50 retweets and 430 likes in nearly four years (shown below, top). On January 24th, 2022, Twitter user @im_so_green[3] cited it in response to the prompt, "What is a piece of writing, on the internet (i.e. not a book), that you return to or at least consider foundational?," gaining over 12,000 retweets and 108,000 likes in seven months (shown below, bottom). In early 2022, Mel Magazine[1] devoted a piece to breaking the tweet down and tracking how it's been celebrated over the years.
The tweet also became the template for a snowclone that was popularized on Twitter in the early 2020s. On September 9th, 2021, Twitter user @bflare[4] shared a story in which she concluded she might have to "fuck the tire man for tires," gaining over 910 retweets and 8,600 likes in one year (shown below, left). On August 22nd, 2022, Twitter user @almondtitties[5] tweeted, "fucking the precedented times man for precedented times," gaining over 30 retweets and 270 likes in one week (shown below, right).
