About
Fuck You, Mom And Dad! / 10 Years Later is an exploitable meme template showing stick-figure parents telling their son to clean his room and him yelling back, "Fuck you, mom and dad!" In the bottom panel, the son is then portrayed 10 years later watching Jordan Peterson giving him the same advice with a positive reaction. The format is typically used by altering the caption of the parents (or replacing their image) with the son refusing their advice, only to later receive the same advice later on his laptop while exclaiming, "Genius!" The original meme was shared on Reddit in 2018 and made fun of Jordan Peterson fans.
Origin
On February 4th, 2018, a since-deleted Redditor posted a meme to /r/enoughpetersonspam[1] that showed parents telling their son to clean his room. He then yells at them, saying, "Fuck you Mom and Dad!" Ten years later, he's shown watching a Peterson lecture on YouTube where he tells his audience to, "Clean your room, bucko!" This time, the son obliges and proclaims the idea genius. Over the course of four years, the meme received over 770 upvotes (shown below).
Spread
On June 18th, 2020, the Instagram[2] page zizekhoe posted a meme that inserted Ted Kaczynski, also known as the Unabomber, into the template. It also replaced the bottom text to read, "phone bad, go outside, bucko." It is unknown if zizekhoe is the meme's creator, however, their post is the earliest known edit of the original, and it received over 460 likes in two years (shown below).
On August 4th, 2021, Redditor JoeBaIIs posted another Ted Kaczynski iteration to /r/PoliticalCompassMemes [3] that additionally used many Wojak characters like 30-Year-Old Boomer, Tradwife and Yes Chad. The post received roughly 9,800 upvotes in one year (shown below, left). On April 17th, 2022, Twitter[4] user forkynderen posted another version, earning roughly 2,000 likes in two months (shown below, right).
Meme creators continued to exploit the template going into the remainder of 2022, each replacing who was on the laptop screen, and what they were saying.
