From The Top, Make It Drop refers to parodies of a WAP lyric which grew popular on Twitter. The parodies involve people posting two pictures usually showing a pop culture character who famously suffered a fall or dropped something in their movie or television show.

Origin

In "WAP" by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, the chorus begins "From the top, make it drop." On September 16th, 2020, Twitter user @bubblydery[1] posted two pictures of Hendery from Chinese boy group WayV doing a split, gaining over 170 retweets and 840 likes (shown below).


Spread

The format began growing more popular when it began to incorporate movie and film references. On September 20th, 2020, Twitter user @FALCONVERSE[2] posted the lyrics with pictures of Black Widow from Avengers, gaining over 290 retweets and 1,400 likes (shown below, left). On September 22nd, user @littlechirons[3] posted a Bridge to Terabithia reference, gaining over 2,300 retweets, 2,200 quote tweets, and 16,000 likes (shown below, right).


Other popular examples include a post by @miovies[4] which used stills from Parasite and gained over 6,900 retweets and 37,000 likes (shown below, left) and a post by @bestofpugh[5] with used stills from Midsommar and gained over 16,000 retweets and 76,000 likes (shown below, right). The meme was covered by Junkee.[6]
