About

Forced Mommy Voice "Rock Lobster" Covers refers to a TikTok trend in which users cover the song "Rock Lobster" by the B-52s in a gothic-esque singing voice that has been described as a "forced mommy voice." The trend began in early March 2025 when TikToker @anaynaybanaynay posted her cover of the song, inspiring memes criticizing the cover vocals and the singer. The video inspired others to also cover the song in a similar voice, resulting in further videos asking people to stop participating in the trend.

Origin

On March 7th, 2025, TikToker[1] @anaynaybanaynay posted a video of herself covering a portion of "Rock Lobster" by the B-52s, garnering over 2.8 million views in a month. The cover was highly criticized by commenters, with some top comments reading, "rock lobster cover (your ears)" and "The forced mommy voice."

In the context of the cover, "forced mommy voice," which became the most notable reaction to the cover and following covers, seems to suggest that the singer is forcing her voice to sound motherly to appeal to men, similar to the voices used in Mommy ASMR videos.

Spread

The cover became notably popularized on TikTok in early April 2025, inspiring further covers of "Rock Lobster" in a similar style. On April 6th, 2025, TikToker[2] @nm.nknwn posted a cover of the song that garnered over 2.3 million views in three days.

On April 7th, TikToker[3] @holo.talents posted a similar cover that garnered over 1.4 million views in two days.

That day, X[4] user @c0rpusdelictii posted, "sorry to all the casual rock lobster enjoyers but i think that song has done irreversible damage and its creation may have been a mistake," garnering over 9,600 likes in two days.

As the covers continued to go viral, some TikTokers began posting videos criticizing the covers and the trend as a whole, asking people to stop covering the song. Many claimed that the covers use a "forced mommy voice."

For example, on April 7th, 2025, TikToker[5] @sxventy_seven posted a video criticizing the trend that garnered over 1.7 million views in two days.

On April 8th, TikToker[6] @iwantcherrycoke posted a video in which they film themselves throwing a tantrum on their bed, captioned, "CAN WE PLEASE STOP MAKING ROCK LOBSTER COVERS I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE," garnering over 3.3 million views in a day. That day, u/Icy_Club7533 made a post to /r/OutOfTheLoop[7] asking about the trend.
