About
Folk π refers to a caption in a series of image macros and reaction images, which conveys crying laughing, emodied by the Loudly Crying Face Emoji, π, and the word "folk," which addresses a group of people, usually the viewers, who are also laughing. Folk memes largely stem from the Son Meme or Son π and the use of both captions in several iterations of the AI Baby Holding Laugh meme.
Originally a part of online AAVE slang, Folk π spread in ironic anti-memes in late 2025, commonly paired with the Druski Ravens Edit and predominantly shared on Instagram, TikTok and X / Twitter within Hood Irony circles. In the anti-memes, Folk became synonymous with "bro," "blud," "twin" and other AAVE words that act as pronouns in memes for a human subject.
Origin
Viral use of "folk" on social media largely surfaced in 2025. For instance, on September 29th, 2025, X[1] user @TEVOSPRITEMAN tweeted, "Folk this shit got me tweaking," as a caption for an image showing rapper YFN Lucci. Over three months, the tweet received over 42,000 likes.
On October 20th, Instagram[5] user @idroptacoinmysoup shared a Reel of a man on a motorized bike crashing with a text caption reading, "Folk," followed by several π Emojis. Over two months, the video received over 70,500 likes and is currently the first known use of the caption online.
Spread
On October 23rd, 2025, Instagram user @idroptacoinmysoup shared a meme to their main Instagram[6] account @bigsoup.taco, using Folk π again as a text overlay caption, gaining over 5,600 likes in two months. They continued sharing Folk π memes on Instagram[7] heading into November 2025.
Folk π memes in late 2025 were then notably inspired by an AI Baby Holding Laugh meme that used it as a text overlay caption.
It's currently unknown who created the image macro, as it was initially spread in TikTok comment sections. An early, full-cropped version was shared on November 14th, 2025, in the comment section of TikToker[2] @babyboykevv's video.
On November 16th, 2025, X[3] user @oxhiime tweeted the Folk π meme with the AI Baby, captioning it, "Just took like 20 smthn pics and only two were good πππππππππππππππ Son ππππππππ." In a month, the post gained over 65,000 likes.
On December 10th, TikToker[4] @whotockyy posted a video of a friend doing the SpongeBob SquarePants "Boi" pose with a text overlay caption reading, "Folk π." Over 12 days, the video received over 48,600 likes.
On December 20th, 2025, Instagram[8] user @bigsoup.taco shared a Druski Ravens Edit image macro with a top caption reading, "Send this to someone until they folk you," gaining over 86,600 likes in two days.
