Foap refers to a side image of the character Ghost from the 2022 video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, captioned "Foap!" (a mispronunciation of the character Soap) since it appears as if Ghost has a large overbite with his protruding skull mask. In late November 2022, the image achieved virality on iFunny and TikTok, where it was used in image caption memes.

Origin

On November 27th, 2022, iFunny^[1] user AngelOfTime480 posted a side image of the character Simon "Ghost" Riley, his mask positioned over his face in such a way that, were it a part of his face, it would likely cause a speech impediment. The image is captioned "Foap!" and is a mispronunciation of "Soap," the name of Ghost's partner in the game (shown below). The post gained over 10,400 smiles on iFunny in 10 days.

Spread

Starting in late November 2022, the image spread on iFunny and TikTok as users created image caption memes based on the image and reacted to it. For example, on November 29th, 2022, TikToker^[2] lukejroberts1141 posted a reaction video that gained over 3.4 million views and 585,400 likes in seven days (shown below, left). On December 3rd, TikToker^[3] @roman.around posted a cosplay meme that gained over 169,800 views and 33,700 likes in four days (shown below, right).
