About
Flowberry Fizz is the name of a Fortnite support item that gives the player and their teammates shielding in the battle royale video game. Added into the game in early January 2024, the item quickly went viral online due to its in-game application, which simulates a champagne bottle celebration that many also found similar in appearance to "busting."
Origin
On January 2nd, 2024, Fortnite received an update that removed its Christmas celebrations and added the Enforcer AR and the new Flowberry Fizz. Later that day, content creator @BoopNL_[1] uploaded a video of him using the Flowberry Fizz, as well as explaining what it is and how it works in-game, earning over 17 million views in one day (shown below).
Spread
The reactions to the item online were almost immediate, with several people commenting, quote retweeting and creating their own posts and memes on social media about the item.
For example, on January 2nd, 2024, X user @LunarPrimate7[2] used a video of Jim Carrey's Grinch eating a lot of who-pudding to state a common way that the Flowberry Fizz item is discussed online in sexual contexts (shown below).
Due to the item being based off of a champagne shower celebration, social media users also began posting their favorite real-world examples of champagne popping to show their excitement for the new item. On January 3rd, X user @MrTLexify[3] uploaded a GIF of DJ Khaled in a pool popping a gigantic bottle of champagne while captioning that this is how they feel while using the item (shown below).
