Flight "Broke Boi" refers to a rap song called "Broken Boi Boi" by streamer FlightReacts (aka Flight), originally posted to YouTube in 2019. In the music video, Flight is wearing an orange hoodie with "Broke Boi" written on it. He's seen performing the song next to a white BMW in a parking lot. The song's hook is, "You ain't nothin' but a broke boy, boy, boy, boy." Predominantly starting in late 2024, Flight's "Broke Boi" became the subject of memes on TikTok where remixes and other exploitable usage ensued. It was commonly mashed with other songs receiving meme attention during the same timeframe like KSI's "Thick Of It" or Travis Scott and Playboi Carti's "FE!N" ("Fein"), among others. Memes using "Broke Boi" first surfaced en masse in 2022, when a video accusing rapper Drake of stealing Flight's lyrics went viral online. Overall, the song's memetic spreaed likened it to Meme Rap and Satirical Hip-Hop.
Origin
On February 21st, 2019, YouTuber[1] FlightReacts (aka Flight) uploaded the music video for his song "Broken Boi Boi," gaining over 7.1 million views and 261,000 likes in five years (shown below).
Spread
Flight's song became the subject of viral memes a few years later, predominantly starting on November 4th, 2022, when TikToker[2] @ogs_rap posted a video in which they claimed that rapper Drake had stolen the lyrics of Flight's song. The video received over 3.2 million plays and 402,300 likes in two years. The video's sound has since been removed.
However, on November 12th, Flight posted a reaction video to YouTube[3] including the abovementioned video, gaining over 274,200 views and 11,000 likes in two years (shown below).
Flight's reaction to Drake allegedly stealing his lyrics was clipped and spread to TikTok[4] in the following weeks.
In early 2023, memes using Flight's "Broke Boi" surfaced en masse. For instance, on April 2nd, 2023, TikToker[5] @ftcszn posted a Patrick Bateman Walking meme that joked about listening to the song, gaining over 287,100 plays and 26,700 likes in a year (shown below).
On August 16th, TikToker[6] @.zzenvfx posted a slowed remix of Flight's "Broke Boi" with a POV caption, reading, "POV: a single father of 3 kids asks me for a dollar as I walk out of Walmart," gaining over 1.5 million plays and 226,100 likes in a year (shown below).
Memes using Flight's "Broke Boi" continued in 2024. For instance, on June 26th, 2024, TikToker[7] @rapstats_ posted a video that joked about multiple rappers, including Drake and Lil Uzi Vert, stealing Flight's lyrics, gaining over 4.3 million plays and 548,700 likes in four months (shown below).
"Fein" Remix
On October 3rd, 2024, TikToker[8] @personinparis1819 posted a video that mashed Flight's "Broke Boi" with Travis Scott's "FE!N," gaining over 2.4 million plays and 398,500 likes in three weeks (shown below).
In the following weeks, the remix was used by other meme creators and further remixed by other producers. For instance, on October 10th, TikToker[9] @s6larrr posted a jerk remix, gaining over 8.8 million plays and 1.3 million likes in 15 days (shown below).
