Five Stages refers to a series of TikTok videos in which users act out five different reactions to the same thing over time to a remixed version of the song "Living Island" by Pogo.

Origin

February 23rd, 2019 TikTok user @charbolzord101 uploaded the remixed sound clip from Pogo's "Living Island" to be used by others (shown below). The video gained about 150 likes in four months.

Spread

In early June, TikTok users began using the song to illustrate five stages of something. On June 8th, @nickel_c acted out the five stages of a sleepover (shown below, left). The video gained over 1.2 million likes and 65,400 shares in 12 days. On June 13th, 2019, @nathantriska uploaded a video illustrating the five stages of friendship (shown below, center). The video gained over 487,900 likes and 16,600 shares in a week. On June 17th, @darynapopach uploaded a variation in which they react to going to school as they get older (shown below, right). The video accumulated over 260,800 likes and 4,700 shares in three days.
