Fitness is My Passion, also known as "Boy Who’s Passion is Fitness," is a reaction image depicting a boy lounging by a resort pool with a double exposure portrait of himself along the right side. It’s typically used as a reaction image to express laziness or sarcasm about fitness and being healthy.

Origin

The original photo used in the meme appears to come from a family photo taken in Sharm el-Sheikh (an Egyptian resort town) sometime in 2012, but this is merely speculation based on observing the original, uncropped photo (shown below).

The first instance this photo appears online dates back to December 7th, 2013, from a Tumblr^[1] post by user mosquewifi. The post was liked and reblogged by 45 users.

Spread

Sometimes associated with the meme “wet 4 u,” another example (seen below) can be found again on Tumblr^[2] uploaded by user vanjalen on December 7th, 2013.

A reverse image search on TinEye^[3] then scraped another example from Memeguy.com^[4] that was posted on December 12th, 2013. The upload (seen below) was liked 171 times.

The photo spread to other places online in 2014, where it began seeing use as a meme. On Imgur^[5], user IFavoriteAllOfTheCats uploaded one of the earliest examples of the photo accompanying a caption on October 17th, 2014, with the title “MRW I get out of the shower and my roommate has girls over.” The post received 5,861 points, 6,658 views and 172 comments.

As the spread to various sites continued, it appeared on Reddit for the first time in 2014. Uploaded by Redditor^[6] BigKidAdolf to the r/me_irl sub on November 30th, 2014, the post was used to describe themselves in sarcastic fashion.

Twitter was another platform that helped to spread the image, where many users tweeted the photo as reactions in replies or captions of their own. One user on Twitter named “Herbert the Pervert” posted the image on December 27th, 2014 (shown below).

In the following years, numerous variations of the meme were posted on Reddit to a wide array of subs, particularly in late 2019 and early 2020. Uploaded by Redditor^[7] StarvingWalrus to r/memes on January 8th, 2020, one of the more modern meme templates is used to poke fun about making healthy food decisions (seen below). This post was upvoted over 18,000 times and commented on 75 times.
