First Words

First Words is a Tumblr tag associated with a series of short dialogue scripts and webcomics humorously illustrating a parent's experience of hearing the first word of a child, though instead of it being a common first word such as "mom" or "dad," the word conveys a message that is unexpectedly dark or insulting.

Origin

On January 27th, 2013, Tumblr user linaii^[1] posted one of the first First Words comics, which depicted Thranduil from the Lord of the Rings universe upset that his son's first word is dwarves, not dad. As of July 2014, the post has gained over 36,000 notes.

As of July 2014, more than 10 first words posts have gained over 100 notes including one about Daft Punk posted on January 29th, 2014, by Tumblr user samarott^[3] which has gained over 140,000 notes, one about Green Day posted on July 24th, by Tumblr user im-not-o-fuckin-k^[4] which has gained over 100,000 notes and one about America's Next Top Model posted on July 26th, by Tumblr user jayjsupremacy^[2] which has gained over 7,000 notes,
