About
Fireball Dance refers to a TikTok dance trend and challenge in which a group of people will try to do a synchronized dance to the beat of "Fireball" by musical artist Pitbull. The trend, becoming popularized in late 2023 on TikTok, is comparable to other musical-based viral video challenges, such as the Mannequin Challenge.
Origin
On July 23rd, 2014, Pitbull released the song "Fireball," which quickly was adopted into pop culture and used in different media. On October 25th, 2023, TikToker hoodiefamfam[1] uploaded a video of a group of boys dancing to the song in a synchronized troop movement, earning over 736,000 likes in four months and introducing the audio to TikTok (shown below).
Spread
The dance trend started to spread almost immediately after it was uploaded. On December 26th, 2023, the TikTok group triplecharmofficial[2] uploaded their own version of the dance in which they launched a confetti cannon and did a synchronized dance number while announcing that they would be bringing back their live show. This TikTok, meant as a promotional post, earned over 1.7 million likes in one month while showing that brands and creators could utilize it for hype building (shown below).
The trend continued to be popular heading into 2024, with different creators using it on a larger scale. For example, on January 19th, 2024, TikTok traveler isabell.afro[3] uploaded a TikTok in which she was dressed as an Indonesian student and had a class of students perform the dance with her in the rain, earning over 2 million likes in five days (shown below).
