Fiji Water Girl refers to a woman who appeared on camera during the red carpet portion of the 2019 Golden Globe Awards, offering water to thirsty celebrities. While silent, many viewers noticed how sharply dressed the girl was and believed she upstaged several celebrities in their interviews.

Origin

On January 6th, 2019, during the red carpet portion of the 2019 Golden Globe Awards, while celebrities interviewed with various media outlets, a girl hired to offer Fiji water to celebrities wandered around the proceedings, occasionally getting into live shots and photographs (ABC recap of the story below).

Spread

Viewers quickly noticed the girl's ubiquity at the event. User @JarettSays joked he had already written 200 pages of the girl's inner-monologue, gaining over 200 retweets (shown below, left). User @wingardiumbrad pointed out several pictures of the girl, saying she was living her best life, gaining over 1,000 retweets and 3,400 likes (shown below, right).

Fiji identified the woman as model Kelleth Cuthbert.^[1] The jokes about her were covered by multiple news outlets including Bustle^[2] and Huffington Post.^[3] Memes about the Cuthbert also appeared online. An Instagram account devoted to jokes about her, @officialfijiwatergirl,^[4] gained over 420 followers in less than 24 hours (examples shown below).
