About
Fidough is a Fairy-type Pokémon from the 2022 video game Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. A short, dog- or puppy-like Pokémon with a bread-motif in its design (such as buns or rolls for ears), after the Pokémon appeared in the August 3rd, 2022 trailer for the games, it became an instant hit among fans, inspiring memes and fan art on social media.
Origin
On August 3rd, 2022, The Pokémon Company held a presentation in which they covered multiple aspects about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The trailer revealed three new Pokémon: a regional variant of Wooper, an Ice-type Pokémon named Cetitan, and Fidough, a puppy-like Fairy Pokémon with a bread motif (shown below).
Some information about Fidough was shared on the Pokémon website[2] after the character's reveal. In two paragraphs, the site explained:
Fidough’s moist, smooth skin has elastic qualities and is both firm and soft at the same time. When these Pokémon become excited, they intimidate their opponents by puffing up their bodies to appear bigger.
Fidough ferments things in its vicinity using the yeast in its breath. Said yeast is useful for cooking, so this Pokémon has been protected by people since long ago.
The Pokémon was immediately tweeted about by the Pokémon news site Serebii[1] after it appeared in the trailer (shown below).
