Fiber Optic Cable Core, also known as Noun-Posting or Nouncore, refers to a series of ethereal edits on TikTok in which creators isolate and repeat certain words said in a video (oftentimes a movie scene, TV show scene or viral video) and fade transition an image that represents that word. The trend started with The Sopranos edits centered on the phrase "fiber optic cable." The trend also became associated with a series of Sam Sulek edits. Overall, the video trend is similar to and likely inspired by Corecore and Pinkcore videos as well as so-called "feet and toes" edits. TikToker @mbvlayne is the originator of the trend, starting in mid-2023.

Origin

"Repeating words edits" were started by TikToker[1] @mbvlayne with a video posted on June 10th, 2023, which centered on scenes from The Sopranos including one involving "fiber optic cable." The video received roughly 24,000 likes in four months (shown below). The TikToker's edits and memes are ultimately inspired by Corecore and so-called "feet and toes" edits that use nonsensical CapCut effects and filters, evident in trends like Bad The Walking Dead Edits and Tony Soprano Sees the Gyatt popularized by the accounts @rickgrimesfeetandtoes and @tonysopranofeetandtoes earlier in 2023.

TikToker @mbvlayne continued to post more edits that repeated words going into June 2023, such as one TikTok[2] posted on June 12th, 2023, which used a scene from The Walking Dead, gaining roughly 595,100 plays and 136,500 likes in four months (shown below, left). Also on June 12th, @mbvlayne posted a TikTok[3] that featured Breaking Bad, gaining roughly 1.5 million plays and 365,600 likes in four months (shown below, right).

The TikToker's editing style eventually received copycats. For instance, the first known copycat was TikToker[4] @invictusvisions, who posted a Sam Sulek edit that repeated words on July 27th, 2023, gaining roughly 420,400 plays and 97,500 likes in three months (shown below, left). TikToker[5] @invictusvisions posted another Sam Sulek edit on August 1st, which gained over 560,000 plays and 110,100 likes in two months (shown below, right).

In October 2023, the "repeating words" editing style became increasingly well-known and used by variant TikTokers. For instance, on October 8th, 2023, TikToker[6] @stuffgg0 posted a version with the "3 bhocolate bhip bhookies" McDonald's drive-thru video, receiving roughly 15.1 million plays and 2.8 million likes in eight days (shown below).

Noun-Posting

In late October 2023, users on YouTube[7] and TikTok[8] started to refer to the trend as "noun-posting" and the videos as "noun posts." For instance, on October 30th, 2023, YouTuber[7] Raccoon Men Productions posted a Family Guy noun post that received roughly 12,300 views in one month (shown below).

Videos that called the trend "noun-posting" became increasingly viral in November 2023, such as a Family Guy Thanksgiving video posted by TikToker[9] @shootingmyselfintheface on November 23rd, 2023, that received roughly 286,800 plays and 66,600 likes in six days (shown below).
