Fernanfloo Dresses Up refers to a series of two-panel memes based on two photographs of Salvadoran YouTuber Fernanfloo in which he wears pajama pants and a hoodie and a full suit. The format has been used to humorously compare person's attitudes towards various occasions. The meme is also known by its popular caption My Wife's Funeral.

Origin

On July 6th, 2019, Salvadoran YouTuber Fernanfloo^[1] posted a photograph of himself in a full suit to his Instagram, with the post gaining over 832,300 likes in one year (shown below, right). The origin of the other photograph used in the meme in which Fernanfloo is wearing pajama pants and a hoodie is unconfirmed (shown below, left). The image was taken prior to August 10th, 2016.^[2]

The exact first meme which combined the image is currently unknown. On November 14th, 2019, Facebook^[3] page Fernanfloo ｓｈｉｔｐｏｓｔｉｎｇ posted the earliest viral meme which combined the photographs, with the post gaining over 1,400 reactions and 1,500 shares in one year (shown below).

Spread

In the following year, the format saw limited use by Spanish-speaking users on Instagram and Facebook, starting to gain traction in November 2020. For example, on November 13th, 2020, Facebook^[4] page Monas Chinas con Playeras de la UAS posted a meme that gained over 240 reactions and 400 shares in one month (shown below, left). On November 19th, 2020, Instagram^[5] page comando.posting posted a meme that received over 23,200 likes in one month (shown below, right).

On December 7th, 2020, Twitter^[6] user @VakaVG posted the first viral English version of the meme that received over 60 retweets and 2,200 likes in three weeks (shown below). In the following days, the image was circulated online; for example, a December 11th, 2020, repost by Facebook^[7] page CTFU World received over 800 reactions and 200 shares.

In late December 2020, the format received further spread on Facebook and Reddit with multiple viral instances.
