Feeling Cute, Might Delete Later, sometimes written Felt Cute, Might Delete Later, is an image macro series featuring pictures of people, animals and fictional characters taking selfie photographs captioned with messages indicating that they felt attractive but may remove the image from social media at a later date. In late March 2019, the #FeelingCuteChallenge hashtag was created, in which participants share humorous photos paired with variations of the phrasal template "feeling cute, might X later."

Origin

On January 22nd, 2017, Twitter user @PapaCone_[1] tweeted an illustration of the Spongebob Squarepants character Squidward taking a selfie with the caption "might delete soon but I felt cute in this pic 😋😘🙊💖" (shown below). Over the next seven months, the tweet received upwards of 43,200 likes and 18,500 retweets.

Spread

On January 27th, 2017, Twitter user @DankMemes[5] posted a photograph of a dog taking a selfie with the caption "might delete soon but I felt cute in this pic ☺️😋😝" (shown below). Within seven months, the tweet gained over 13,000 likes and 7,400 retweets.

On April 25th, Twitter user @laogn posted a photoshopped picture of a Club Penguin avatar taking a selfie with the caption "might delete this later idk I just thought I looked cute❤️" (shown below, left). On June 14th, Redditor princessraquel reposted the Squidward selfie photo to /r/bikinibottomtwitter.[2] On July 8th, Twitter user @Drops[4] posted a picture of a Snapchat Dancing Hot Dog taking a selfie with the caption "Feeling cute, might delete later idk tho" (shown below, right).

On July 28th another dog selfie taken from a low angle was posted to Reddit with the title "I might delete this soon, but I was feeling cute".[3]

Dr. Phil Tweet

On October 14th, 2018, Twitter user @jakesaysyousuck[7] posted a photograph of Kid Rock with the caption "Why does Kid Rock look like Dr. Phil dressed up as Kid Rock" (shown below). Within two weeks, the tweet gained over 230,000 likes and 49,500 retweets.

On October 30th, Dr. Phil posted a photograph of himself wearing a Halloween costume based on the Kid Rock photo accompanied by the caption "Felt cute, might delete later" (shown below).[8] Over the next several hours, the tweet gained more than 279,600 likes and 84,700 retweets.

#FeelingCuteChallenge

On March 30th, Facebook[13] user Courtney Muse posted a photograph of a UPS employee with the caption "Feeling cute, Might deliver your package later, IDK" (shown below). Within three weeks, the post gained over 107,000 shares and 14,000 comments on the platform.

On April 10th, 2019, Instagram user @lilduval[9] posted a Snapchat photo of a Columbus Water Works employee with the caption "Feeling cute. Might cut your water off later…idk" (shown below). Within one week, the post gathered more than 92,700 likes. According to the Ledger-Enquirer,[10] a spokesperson for the water company said the image was originally posted by the employee to Facebook, but it has since been deleted.

On April 13th, the Breastfeeding Mama Talk Facebook page posted a Snapchat photo of a woman breastfeeding with the caption "Feeling cute. Might post this later to offend someone…idk" along with the hashtag "#FeelingCuteChallenge" (shown below, left). On April 14th, Instagram user @moistbuddha[11] posted a photograph of Tiger Woods with the caption "Felt cute might pop a xanny and pass out in my car later idk" (shown below, right) Within 48 hours, the post gathered upwards of 54,200 likes.

On April 14th, the police accountability website AmericasPoliceProblem[14] published a post about controversial #FeelingCuteChallenge posts submitted to the Facebook group Correctional Officer Life.[12] On April 16th, the Houston Chronicle reported that a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice announced several correctional officers were "under investigation for on and off-duty conduct violations" in relation to the #FeelingCuteChallenge, which included alleged posting of an image with the caption "Feeling cute, might just gas some inmates today, IDK." The article reported that images spread on the Facebook[12] group "Correctional Officer Life." The following day, Reason published an article about the controversial posts titled "Prison Guards Are ‘#FeelingCute’ About Threatening To Assault Inmates for No Reason."
