Favorite Interaction You’ve Had with A Celebrity refers to a viral tweet using a picture of Amercian actor Adam Sandler in which social media users ask others to share their favorite interaction with a celebrity. The Twitter (X) post went viral in late September 2023, inspiring thousands of funny, embarrassing and other types of stories to be shared on the platform involving a famous person. The reverse angle of the trend, known as The Worst Interaction with A Celebrity, also gained a fair amount of engagement on social media during the same period.

Origin

On September 20th, 2023, X^[1] user @gothamhiphop posted a picture of Adam Sandler^[2] during the 1999 Kids' Choice Awards paired with the caption "What’s your favorite interaction you’ve had with a celebrity?" The post amassed over 400 million views and 21,000 likes in a week (shown below).

Spread

The tweet posted by @gothamhiphop quickly went viral, inspiring people to share their personal stories related to famous celebrities. For instance, on September 26th, 2023, X^[3] user @theemulatto posted a video (shown below) showing an interaction she had with Twitch streamer Kai Cenat, which amassed more than 272,000 views and 1,500 likes in a day.

On September 22nd, X^[4] user @jlmiciak told a story of when he met TV host Conan O'Brien (shown below, left), which amassed over 122,000 likes and 6,200 retweets in a week. On the same day, X^[4] user @maliktheoracle posted a picture with Shaquille O'Neal, which garnered more than 56,000 likes and 2,000 retweets in a week (shown below, right).

The Worst Interaction With A Celebrity

A reverse picture (shown below, left) of Adam Sandler paired with the caption "What’s an interaction you had with a celebrity that was fucked up and evil" was shared on September 22nd, 2023 by X^[5] user @zachsilberberg. The intention was to let people share horrible celebrity interaction moments as a reversal of the trend.

For example, on September 25th, X^[6] user @jab50yen story about Kanye West's lawyers contacting him "telling me to take down my Kanye YTPMVs in 2013." The post (shown below, right) garnered roughly 227 likes and 25 retweets in one day.
