About

Favorite Character Bingo refers to a social media game where a user posts a bingo sheet filled with their favorite characters from video games, television shows, manga/anime, etc. Usually, the card is parodied by having all the squares filled up with one character.

Origin

The earliest known post to feature the template was posted to Twitter by user @PatMSeymourVA[4] on January 28th, 2018, showing a variety of different characters. The tweet gained 6 retweets and 147 likes.

Spread

In July of 2018, the bingo card began spreading in parodies which made all the spaces represent a single character. For example, on July 22nd, 24th and 25th, Twitter users radiostarkiller[1] nanalujah[2] and NessKeyhand[3] uploaded different version using Makoto Niijima from Persona 5, Eikichi Mishina from Persona 2 and Lyn from Fire Emblem respectively, gaining 500+ likes on the following days (shown below).

On Tumblr, popular parody examples included a post by devilhs-adult-art that only included Skeletor (shown below, left). Tumblr user deathlad posted an edit using Izuku Midoriya from My Hero Academia (shown below, right)
