Fat Girl Fall and Fat Boy Fall refer to a series of memes declaring the fall season "fat girl fall" or "fat boy fall," a season for celebrating fat men and women. The meme, inspired by memes like hot girl summer and christian girl autumn, was popularized as early as 2019, with musical artist Lizzo sharing a fat girl fall meme that year, becoming increasingly popular over the following years.

Origin

On July 28th, 2019, Instagram[1] user critics_of_culture posted an image macro consisting of a collage of Lizzo photos, captioned, "Forget hot girl summer, Lizzo leading us into fat girl fall," garnering around 490 likes in four years (shown below, left). That day, Lizzo shared a seemingly now-deleted meme from the same creator, posted to Instagram user @zatariolelouch, on X,[2] writing, "FAT GIRL FALL BEGINS SEPT 1ST 😩," garnering over 23,000 likes in the same span of time (shown below, right).

Spread

On August 13th, 2019, Instagram[3] user iam_cking posted a video about a fat boy fall, garnering over 41,900 views in four years (shown below).

On August 27th, Facebook[4] page Not Another Rap Page posted a meme referencing fat boy fall, garnering over 450 shares in four years (shown below, left). On August 29th, Facebook[5] page Kitchen Fun With My 3 Sons made a post ushering in fat girl fall, garnering over 37,000 shares in four years (shown below, right). The former meme was shared by Instagram[6] user text_pics_daily on July 23rd, 2020, garnering over 13,300 likes in three years.

On October 11th, 2021, iFunny[7] user ETCBeyond posted an image of Pochaco eating noodles captioned, "get ready for fat girl fall," garnering around 100 smiles in two years. The meme was reposted by X[8] user @Hideki_Naganuma on November 28th, garnering over 44,000 likes in two years (shown below).

In 2022, a series of image macros using an exploitable banner captioned "hot girl summer is over, time for fat boy fall," began spreading on social media. For example, on September 12th, 2022, Facebook[9] user Garchomp Sinnohposting posted a meme using the banner that gained over 4,900 shares and 10,000 reactions in a year (shown below, left). On September 2nd, 2023, Facebook[10] user BeigeSaiyan posted a meme by Saiyan Pride that gained over 3,200 shares and 4,500 reactions in two months (shown below, right).
