About
Family Guy "I Got a Glock In My 'Rari" refers to a series of viral videos showing the Family Guy characters Chris and Lois Griffin singing Fetty Wap's song "679," centering on the lyric "I Got a Glock In My 'Rari." An extended version of the video shows Meg Griffin on fire. The original video was posted to YouTube in 2022, spreading via reposts on social media. Variations of the video surfaced later, most notably a moldy and low-quality version as well as an AI Voice cover that added Chris, Lois and Stewie's voices. Going into 2024, YouTubers and TikTokers posted videos of them playing the video on strange devices like VHS players and a 3DS, among others. The trend then became similar to the Josh Hutcherson Whistle Edit.
Origin
The Family Guy scene that's used in the meme is from season 15, episode 12 "Peter's Def Jam" in which Peter becomes deaf.[1] The scene shows Lois and Chris trying to talk to Peter but he can't hear them.
On August 8th, 2022, YouTuber[2] Posniayes posted a moldy video that added Fetty Wap's "679" to the Family Guy scene, making it appear that Chris and Lois were rapping it. Over two years, the video received 2.6 million views and 265,000 likes (shown below). It is currently the first known upload.
Precursor
Before the usage of Fetty Way's "679," the original meme that used the scene was paired with the song "Pain 1993" by Drake, featuring Playboi Carti. It is currently unknown who originally made the meme. However, its first known upload was on January 9th, 2021, by YouTuber[3] ChadFap (shown below).
The second iteration of the format was posted by Instagram[4] user @succc.exe on January 18th, 2021, in which they replaced the song with "Lifestyle" by Rich Gang, featuring Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan, gaining over 26,500 likes in three years (shown below).
Spread
After YouTuber[2] Posniayes' video in mid-2022, the Fetty Wap video with the Family Guy characters spread online and gained variations. For instance, on August 13th, 2022, YouTuber[5] Za Walrus posted an extended, higher-quality version that included Meg on fire, gaining roughly 2.5 million views and 91,000 likes in two years (shown below, left).
On August 14th, 2022, YouTuber[6] K1!!3R posted a moldier and shorter version, gaining over 1 million views in two years (shown below, right).
Later in 2022, the video received viral reposts on TikTok.[7]
AI Voice Cover
On March 23rd, 2023, YouTuber[8] hell funny posted a video called "family guy glock in my rari but they actually sing it" that added AI voices to Lois and Chris, receiving over 1.8 million views and 68,000 likes in 11 months (shown below, left).
Months later, on December 23rd, 2023, YouTuber[9] hell funny posted an extended AI cover with better-trained voice models. The video also featured a verse from Stewie Griffin. Over two months, it earned over 2.1 million views and 94,000 likes (shown below, right).
The AI covers then went viral via reposts on TikTok.[10] Original iterations also surfaced on the platform, such as a video posted by TikToker[11] @obeyray_1359 on January 19th, 2024, who put the video on a VHS tape and played it on a SpongeBob SquarePants TV. The TikTok earned over 3.5 million plays and 754,000 likes in one month (shown below).
Thereafter, YouTubers[12] posted videos of playing the video on strange devices.
