Falling Out of Chair is a series of object labeled image macros featuring two students in a school, one dancing and one falling backward in a chair. The person dancing is typically labeled something positive, while the falling person is labeled with an unintended or unexpected consequence.

Origin

On February 2nd, 2019, Imgur ^[1] user StealBear posted the image with the title "Mmm tasty template." The post received more than 140 views (shown below).

Spread

The following day, Redditor ^[2] BeepBeepMan posted an object-labeled version of the image, labeling the dancing person "Me looking at Reddit during class" and the falling person is labeled "My grades." The post received more than 19,000 points (96% upvoted) and 125 comments. One month later, on March 5th, Redditor^[3] 0rbItalXS posted the image in the /r/teenagers subreddit, receiving more than 40,000 points (91% upvoted) and 800 comments in one month.

Over the next month, people shared variations of the object-labeled version (example below, center). On April 1st, Instagram ^[4] user @grapejuiceboys posted a Oompa Loompa Celebrating meme and received more than 23,000 likes in 24 hours (shown below, right).
