Falinks is a Fighting-type Pokémon which debuted in Pokémon Sword and Shield. The Pokémon's design, featuring six near-identical sentient balls that walk in formation, led to fan art and memes featuring the Pokémon.

Origin

Falinks debuted in Pokémon Sword and Shield, which was released November 15th, 2019, though the Pokémon leaked with the rest of the Galar Pokédex two weeks prior. The Pokémon is comprised of six sentient ball-like creatures: "The Brass," or leader, and five troopers.[1]



Spread

The Pokémon's design proved fodder for memes, as people gravitated towards the six small creatures comprising the Pokémon. Twitter user @GREATBLACKOTAKU[2] posted a parody in which the Pokémon was advertising itself as a group of "Six burly men," gaining over 390 retweets and 1,500 likes (shown below, left). User @doxyonta[3] posted a variation on Marge Simpson's Neat Potato, gaining over 80 retweets and 500 likes (shown below, right).



Others took to creating fan art of the character. User @lanbook[4] posted a GIF of the Pokémon playing with Gym Leader Bea, gaining over 58,000 retweets and 165,000 likes (shown below, left). User @aloud_creative[5] posted art of Kirby in the character's helmet, gaining over 70 retweets and 160 likes (shown below, right).

Marching Falinks refers to edits of Falinks' marching animation set to different music and changing the speed to fit the rhythm, popularized by accounts like FalinksMarching[6] that share edits made by themselves and other users.
