Fake Club Penguin Bans refers to humorous notifications from the children's game Club Penguin which often include profane sentences that have caused the users to be banned.

Origin

On November 12th, 2007, YouTuber PiratesGurl4 posted a video of herself creating fake bans on Club Penguin, gaining over 38,000 views (shown below).

Spread

In 2008, other YouTube users began photoshopping humorous photoshops of messages they created off the banning template. For example, on April 16th, 2008, YouTube user Kiwiisrock posted a video showing themselves getting banned from Club Penguin "the cool way" (shown below, left). YouTuber Numbreon the Ness gained over 201,000 views showing humorous ban messages on the platform (shown below, left).



Over the following decade, edits spread in the form of images. Popular posts of this ilk include a post where a user makes a pun and is banned for saying "Why the fuck ain't y'all laughin?" which gained over 950 points on /r/funny[1] (shown below, left). On May 18th, 2017, College Humor[2] posted a compilation of humorous Club Penguin bans taken from /r/bannedfromclubpenguin,[3] a subreddit devoted to humorous bans from the game. These include a post by user kegfullofshit that gained over 920 points (shown below, right).



On April 15th, 2019, the template for the meme was posted to /r/memetemplatesofficial[4] (shown below).
