About
Facebook Name Change To Meta Announcement refer to memes that use images from the name change announcement to create memes, either by changing stills from the keynote itself or taking images from it and photoshopping them into other images to create memes. These types of memes are one of many that have spawned from the singular keynote and concept of the Facebook name change.
Origin
On October 28th, 2021, during a livestream[1] event Mark Zuckerberg announced that the parent company Facebook will be changed to Meta, which will be focused on the Metaverse, a future product and ideology pushed by Zuckerberg as the "next stage of the internet." During his initial announcement, Zuckerberg had his hands pointed towards the camera while the canvas next to him showed the logo and name of the company, Meta, creating a ripe moment for using photoshop to change the words to his left, similar to Sign Holding (shown below).
Immediately, people began to make memes at the expense of Zuck, with the Twitter[2] account EnniPC having found and tweeted three distinct variations of the meme only four hours after the announcement, earning 150 likes in one day (shown below, left, center, and right).
Spread
The meme quickly began to spread online over social media and meme posting sites. On October 28th, the Twitter[3] account @Taylordotbiz posted an example where the logo is completely replaced by a fake announcement by Zuckerberg, earning 75,000 likes in two days (shown below).
On October 30th, the Facebook[4] page Forever Metal posted an image of the old Metallica for their Master Of Puppets album, replacing the band name with Meta and the plus signs into Facebook f tombstones, earning 5,000 likes in eight hours (shown below)
