What's That?, continued What's That Brother? and also sometimes called Brother, Ugh!, refers to a video of a Muslim man showing disgust directed towards "his brother" that became a sound and meme on TikTok in early 2024. The original video shows Mohamed Hoblos giving a lecture in 2019 in Australia titled "Are You a Man?! Very Powerful Speech!" on YouTube. On TikTok, users object labeled the clip or used the audio as a TikTok sound, posing humorous scenarios that would prompt similar disgusted reactions. On Twitter / X, people used it as a reaction video.

Origin

On December 20th, 2019, the YouTube[1] channel Lectures From Mohamed Hoblos posted a roughly one-hour-long lecture from Mohamed Hoblos called "Are You a Man ?! Very Powerful Speech !" gaining over 2.1 million views and 57,000 likes in five years. At the video's 52:24-minute mark, Hoblos says, "Ew, brother, ew! What's that? What's that brother?" (shown below).

Currently, the first known memetic use of the video was a tweet posted by X[2] user @AviTheDirector on January 6th, 2024, referencing players in the NFL. The post received over 38,000 views and 53 likes in one month (shown below).

On January 25th, 2024, X[3] user @LivingLegacy13 posted a quote with the video, reading, "Marrying a girl from TWITTER?" earning over 1,600 likes in three weeks. Then, on January 27th, X[4] user @XMessi_8 used the video, making a joke about gay men seeing female genitalia, gaining over 3,200 likes in three weeks (shown below).

Soon after, the video started to spread on TikTok. One of the earliest and most viral videos was shared by TikToker[5] @userz41.k on January 28th, 2024, about "bro making a sus joke…" earning over 547,500 plays and 75,500 likes in three weeks (shown below, left).

On January 30th, TikToker[6] @marwa.png also used the video, captioning it, "When he tells me he's interested in marriage but has more female friends than me," receiving over 1.1 million plays and 85,000 likes in 19 days (shown below, right).

Increasingly viral iterations of the meme persisted, like a video posted by TikToker[7] @user72867298 on February 3rd, 2024, reading, "me when i see his following list," gaining over 10.5 million plays and 2.1 million likes in 15 days (shown below, left).

Also, the trend's main TikTok sound[8] was created by TikToker[6] @marwa.png's video. Many used the sound, like TikToker[9] @bobbibeige on February 5th, who made a joke about his white dog breathing on him, gaining over 6.9 million plays and 913,100 likes in 13 days (shown below, right).

On February 9th, 2024, TikToker[10] @chiefgreenscreens posted a greenscreen template of the video, receiving over 3.8 million plays and 189,400 likes in nine days (shown below, left). Others used the template, like TikToker[11] @ramzanmubarak2024 on February 13th, who made fun of embroidered jeans, gaining over 1.1 million plays and 57,900 likes in five days (shown below, right).

By February 18th, 2024, the trend's primary TikTok sound[8] had amassed over 13,000 posts.
