About
Everyone's Cat refers to a ginger cat named Bob whose photographs of him sitting on a bed were widely shared on Twitter in mid-March 2022. After the owner shared the original images of the orange tabby cat, users began claiming it was their "new cat" and gave it names in a humorous social game.
Origin
On March 18th, 2022, Twitter[1] user @rambites shared five photographs of his ginger cat Bob in two tweets. The first tweet gained over 90 retweets and 850 likes in four days (photographs shown below, left and right).
Spread
Within several minutes of @rambites' post on March 18th, 2022, his followers on Twitter started reposting photographs of the cat, claiming it was theirs. For example, within 15 minutes of @rambites' initial post, Twitter[2] user @cosmews claimed that the cat was theirs. Within one minute, Twitter[3] user @nyavemew claimed the same (tweets shown below, left and right).
In the following hours, at least four other users reposted photographs of the cat,[4] claiming it to be theirs. Later on March 18th, Twitter[5] user @DieChanc3 posted screenshots of posts by @rambites' and three other users, expressing confusion over everyone claiming the cat for themselves. The post gained over 12,300 retweets and 154,000 likes on Twitter in three days (shown below).
The viral spread of the post prompted more users on Twitter to claim the cat for themselves.
Later on March 18th, 2022, @rambites shared a video of Bob to prove that the cat was indeed his. The post gained over 106,000 views, 280 retweets and 2,900 likes in three days.
