About
Everybody Told Me That I Sound Like CG5, continued Probably Because I Am CG5, refers to a viral video and audio clip on TikTok by musician CG5 in which he sings, "Everybody told me that I sound like CG5, probably because I am CG5" to the beat of the song "Give a Little," produced by LeGrand and CG5. The video was posted to TikTok in late February 2023 after LeGrand posted a similar video recounting how people compare his voice to CG5's and became a viral original sound throughout February and March 2023 as a source for lip-dub videos in which TikTokers share what they're known for.
Origin
On January 23rd, 2023, YouTuber,[1] TikToker[2] and musician LeGrand posted a promotional video in which he sings over the beat of the song "Give a Little," produced by LeGrand and CG5, singing, "Everybody told me that I sound like CG5," then explains that he and CG5 have their studios nearby and they're releasing the song on the 27th, garnering over 13 million views in two months on YouTube and 1.1 million on TikTok (shown below). On January 27th, the music video was then released on LeGrand's YouTube[3] channel, garnering over 2.7 million views in roughly the same span of time.
On February 27th, musician and TikToker[4] @cg5beats (CG5) posted a video in which he sings along to the same beat, singing, "Everybody told me that I sound like CG5, probably because I am CG5," garnering over 14.9 million views in two weeks (shown below).
Spread
The original sound by @cg5beats became notably popularized over the following weeks, inspiring over 43,000 videos in two weeks. The majority of the videos are by TikTokers and actors who are known for something specific and are presumably asked if they're the person from said thing regularly. For example, on March 8th, 2023, TikTokers[5][6] @gabriella.pizzolo_ and @millyshaparoni posted videos revealing themselves to be the actors who played Suzie from Stranger Things and Charlie from Hereditary respectively, garnering over 17 million and 13 million views in five days (shown below, left and right).
On March 11th, 2023, TikToker[7] @emmalangevin posted a video in which she shares that she appears on the "#BrooklynBloodPop!" single artwork, garnering over 5.3 million views in two days (shown below).
