TikToker Mei Leung Parents Speculation and Spending Controversy refers to an unfounded rumor that TikTok influencer Mei Leung (@mei.leung) is the daughter of fashion designer Vera Wang. Speculation over who Mei Leung's parents were spread online in October 2024 following viral videos posted by Leung that documented her lavish spending habits. In one video, Leung allegedly spent over $47,000 in one night in New York City. In the comment section, people alleged that her mom was Vera Wang, leading to the viral rumor. However, it's currently unknown who Leung's parents are and what they do as she's refused to reveal them. Vera Wang has two daughters who are named Cecilia and Josephine.

Background

Influencer Mei Leung posted her first TikTok^[1] on June 22nd, 2024. However, she didn't go viral until July 9th when she posted a TikTok^[2] about "What I spent in June living in New York." She alleged to have spent over $31,100. Over three months, the video received over 1.3 million plays and 50,800 likes (shown below).

On July 12th, she posted a TikTok^[3] in which she replied to the top comment on her previous video speculating that she was lying. She showed an alleged screenshot of her bank transactions, gaining over 735,300 plays and 6,900 likes in three months (shown below).

In the following months, Leung went viral across multiple TikToks^[4]^[5] that similarly documented her monthly and daily spending habits.

On September 23rd, Leung posted a TikTok^[6] in which her text caption read, "when people ask me what my parents do and who I am," and the sound she chose recited, "And who am I? That's one thing I'll never tell," from the TV show Gossip Girl. Over 13 days, the video gained roughly 2.7 million plays and 204,000 likes (shown below).

In the comment section of the abovementioned video, top comments alleged that Leung's mom was fashion designer Vera Wang (shown below). The comments there largely started the rumor.

On October 3rd, 2024, Leung posted another TikTok^[7] about how much she allegedly spent in one night in New York, claiming that her final total was roughly $47,000. The video received over 4.2 million plays and 421,900 likes in four days (shown below).

In the comment sections of the abovementioned video, a top comment, that received over 57,900 likes, claimed again that Vera Wang was Leung's mother. However, its first reply debunked the claim, saying that Wang's children were named Cecilia and Josephine (shown below).

Per the comment above and People^[8] magazine, Vera Wang has two adopted daughters named Cecilia and Josephine. Cecilia Becker is 33 years old and Josephine Becker is 30.
