Overview
The LaBrant Fam Puppy Controversy refers to family YouTubers Cole and Sav Labrant's April Fools' prank on their 6-year-old daughter. The YouTuber family tells their daughter that they need to give away their dog Carl.
Backround
On April 1st, 2019, The LaBrant Fam posted a video entitled "We Have To Give Our Puppy Away… Saying Goodbye Forever :(" (shown below). The video has accumulated 1.3 million views, 91,000 likes and 8,600 dislikes in three days. After performing the prank Sav states that they perform pranks all the time and their daughter is happy and fine.
Notable Developments
In the next few days, the prank was reported on by Buzzfeed[1], ET Canada[2] and The Daily Dot[3] as cruel. Twitter users agreed. On April 2nd, Twitter user @meaghanpodlaski[4] tweeted, "I don't get angry at much online, but this crosses the line. What kind of sick parent tells their (5-6 year old?) kid they're giving away the dog as an April fools prank, let alone posts it online for millions on the internet to see?" (shown below, left). @Iuciferkersey[5] also tweeted, "sav and cole were already big pieces of shit but not they’re even BIGGER pieces of shit for pranking their 6 year old daughter by telling her they gave away her puppy youtube families are so toxic ban it" (shown below, right). The tweet gained 45 likes in a day.
That same day @wisconsinsane[6] tweeted in response to the report by saying, "Next Prank That Follows: Child Protected Services show up at the home pretending to take Everleigh away from them. Didn’t think Cole and Sav would be that emotional about having their daughter taken away from them" (shown below, left). The tweet gained 112 likes in a day. The next day @Walldo [7] tweeted, "YouTube culture is so gross. These people are famous; think about what must be happening under the radar to kids with parents trying to 'make it' YouTubers Cole And Sav Pranked Their 6-Year-Old By Pretending To Get Rid Of Her Puppy And People Are Furious" (shown below, right). The tweet gained 710 likes that day.
