On March 7th, 2011, a four-minute trailer was uploaded to Nurv’s YouTube account depicting a young female character named Allison talking to a man named Rick over video chat. After the video glitches, Allison is transported to an Alice in Wonderland-style world where she is greeted by Dodson in a Mad Hatter-style costume at a tea party. He then explains to Alison that she has been transported into the internet via a portal and chaos will ensue as a result of her intrusion. Rick also gets transported into the internet world in search of Allison, encountering numerous viral video stars on the way. As of June 2013, this trailer has accrued more than 1.2 million views. Additionally, an annotation has since been added to the YouTube clip stating that the scenes depicted in the trailer do not reflect the script of the movie that will be released.
July 2012: San Diego Comic Con
In July 2012, the film's executive producer Andrew Fischer held a private pre-production event in San Diego coinciding with that year’s Comic Con to hype the film.
