Overview

Slaking Game Freak Leaks, also known as Slaking Lore Story, refers to memes and jokes about Slaking, a normal-type Gen III Pokémon that garnered virality after the Game Freak Gigaleaks in mid-October 2024 revealed an unreleased Pokémon lore story about a Slaking impregnating a young girl and making her give birth to a Slakoth. As the leak was spread online, numerous internet users began posting memes and jokes about how Slaking is a "Diddy party veteran" and how this is one of many examples of NSFW content (like the Vaporeon Copypasta) to hit the fandom, among other discourse.

Background

On October 12th, 2024, several Pokémon and Nintendo enthusiasts on the internet began discussing a purported large data leak from game developers Game Freak circulating online, later becoming known as the "Game Freak Pokemon Gigaleaks."

That day, X^[1] user @nintendeal made one of the first notable posts acknowledging the leak before subsequently deleting the tweet. Nonetheless, the tweet was reposted to 4chan's^[2] /vp/ board on October 12th as well, with initial information from the leak being shared on the subsequent thread.

On October 13th, 2024, Game Freak then acknowledged the leak, saying that confidential information had been subject to "unauthorized access by a third party" and that over 2,000 pieces of employee information had been stolen from the company.^[3]

The Twitter / X account @CentroLeaks^[4] began posting notable information about upcoming Pokémon games, as well as unpublished Pokémon lore uncovered from the leak on October 12th.

The first round of leaks showed beta versions and concept art of Gen 3 Pokémon, while subsequent leaks delved into the creation lore of the Pokémon universe. It was in this lore packet that the story involving the Pokemon Slaking was found.

On October 13th, 2024, X user @Mootmonthly^[4] uploaded one of the earliest examples of the story from the leak alongside the caption, "Seems like the writing team at Game Freak really put the FREAK in their name," earning nearly 1 million views, 15,000 likes and 180 replies in one day (shown below).

Online Reactions

The reactions to the lore drops were immediate, with many people being quick to post either old fan art of Slaking now that it was trending or creating new fan art inspired by the story that started to spread in mid-October 2024 (similar to other Pokemon lore stories like Typhlosion and Octillery).

Memes about Slaking and his role in the story also started to be posted online during the same timeframe. For example, on October 13th, 2024, X user @RockruffAlola^[5] uploaded a Never Ask A Woman Her Age meme in which Spanish is used to show that you don't ask Slaking about what happens between him and human adventurers (shown below), receiving over 4,000 views and 40 likes in two days.

Numerous posts referencing Slaking and the leaks appeared on Reddit in mid-October 2024, such as a post to the subreddit /r/whenthe^[7] under the title "Typhlosion and Slaking fans are the next victims of the Vaporeon-style joke and it's a hundred times worse" that received over 1,600 upvotes and 150 comments in two days (seen below).

Also on October 13th, X^[8] user @PantherMK_ posted a reaction meme to Slaking fans reacting to the lore story, receiving over 588,800 views, 27,000 likes and 50 replies in two days (seen below).

One reaction that started to become prominent not only within the Slaking fan community but others as well was the comparison to previous Pokemon some perceived as creepy or sus, like Hypno and Drifblim. According to their official Dex entries, both have been widely believed to be the true dark side of the franchise until these leaks showed that Slaking and others were close to having the same fate.

On October 14th, 2024, X user @MarxsterWily^[6] uploaded a GIF of the character Zoro from One Piece taking a lot of damage, with the caption accurately describing it as 3 percent of the pain that Hypno fans have had for decades (shown below).

Typhlosion Game Freak Leak

Typhlosion Game Freak Leaks, also known as Typhlosion Lore Leak Story, refers to memes and jokes about Typhlosion, a fire-type Gen II Pokémon. After the Game Freak Gigaleak in mid-October 2024 revealed an unreleased Pokémon lore story about a Typhlosion kidnapping a young girl and making her give birth to a half-human, half-Pokémon hybrid, internet users began posting memes and jokes about how Typhlosion is "Not Like Us" (among other memetic content), and how the meme trend surrounding him resembles memes about Vaporeon like the character's infamous copypasta.
