Overview

Nipsey Hussle's Death refers to the shooting of grammy-nominated rapper Nipsey Hussle outside his clothing score in Los Angeles, California, on March 31st, 2019. Police have identified Eric Holder as the primary suspect in the shooting. The news led to an outpouring of tribute and support from Hussle's fans.

Background

Hussle was a grammy-nominated rapper for his debut full-length album Victory Lap.[1] On March 31st, 2019, he was shot multiple times outside his store, Marathon Clothing, in Los Angeles, and died at the age of 33.[2] Police later identified a man named Eric Holder as the primary suspect, that he was known to Holder, and that the killing was perhaps motivated by a personal dispute.[3]

Developments

The news led to widespread reactions through social media. Major celebrities tweeted their condolences and tributes to the late rapper, including LeBron James [4] (shown below, left) and Chance the Rapper [5] (shown below, right). NBA.com[6] and Pitchfork[7] covered the tributes from basketball stars and musicians, respectively.

Additionally, a conspiracy theory circulated that Hussle's death was related to his work on a documentary concerning a Dr. Sebi, an herbalist who in 1985 said he could cure any disease, including AIDS, with a plant-based diet.[8] Some conspiracy theorists believe his work was silenced by the American government. Hussle was among such people, leading to suspicion that his murder was orchestrated by the government to keep his findings from becoming public. YouTuber Gematria Effect News posted a video going into the conspiracy, gaining over 49,000 views (shown below). Nick Cannon appeared to indicate he would finish Hussle's documentary on Dr. Sebi.[9]
