Nikocado Avocado's Weight Loss, also known as Nikocado Avocado Social Experiment, refers to mukbang YouTuber Nikocado Avocado's reveal of the result of his two-year-long journey to lose 250 pounds of weight, claiming his YouTube career was a social experiment. The reveal video and images of the much thinner YouTuber wearing a red shirt became a viral subject of discussions and memes online in early September 2024.

On September 6th, 2024, mukbang YouTuber Nikocado Avocado, who has been a popular subject of memes, trolling and video essays in the past, has uploaded the first video after a seven-month-long hiatus, titled "Two Steps Ahead."

In the intro of the YouTube^[1] video (shown below), Nikocado Avocado revealed the result of his two-year-long weight loss journey, claiming that the last few years of his YouTube career have been "the greatest social experiment of his life" and that he has had always been "two steps ahead."

The video (shown below) received over 31 million views in three days.

It's alluring, it's compelling, it's gripping to observe all these unwell, disoriented beings roam the internet in search of stories, ideas, rivalries, where they feel encouraged and engaged, where they involve themselves with the stories and become a product of influence.
Thirsty for distraction from time unspent, spoiling their minds, yet stimulating them at the same time. It's brilliant and it's dangerous. I feel as if I'm monitoring ants on an ant farm. One follows another, follows another, follows another… It's mesmerizing, it's spellbinding, all these little consumers, all these lost and bored people, people consuming anything that they're told to consume.
So I am the villain because I made myself one, and you will continue to consume these stories about me year after year after year for as long as I tell the internet that I am the villain. Stories that permeant and linger and infect the minds of the ants, influence the ants, brainwash the ants. You are the ants.
Today I woke up from a very long dream and I also woke up having lost 250 pounds off of my body. Yet just yesterday people were calling me fat and sick and boring and irrelevant. People, people are the most messed up creatures on the entire people. And yet I've still managed to stay two steps ahead of everyone. The joke's on you.

Nikocado Avocado's monologue copies his "Two Steps Ahead" monologue said by him in an early 2022 video nearly verbatim.^[2]

Also on September 6th, 2024, Nikocado Avocado uploaded a video titled "hi" to his second YouTube^[3] channel. In the video, the YouTuber revealed that he started his weight loss journey two years ago and that he had been uploading prerecorded content up until the start of his hiatus seven months ago.

Online Reactions

Nikocado Avocado's reveal video and images of the much thinner YouTuber immediately received viral spread online. For example, on September 6th, 2024, X^[4] user @eolhc69_ posted a clip from the video with the caption, "OH MY GOD????" The post received over 2,000 reposts and 18,000 likes in three days.

Later that day, the X^[5] news account @PopBase made a post comparing an old and a new image of Nikocado Avocado, which accrued over 29 million views, 14,000 reposts and 164,000 likes in three days (shown below).

In the hours following the reveal video on September 6th, 2024, multiple posts describing the YouTuber as a "mastermind" and a "genius" who played his audience went viral on X / Twitter. For example, on September 7th, X^[6] user @mikkcaals made a post that received over 17,000 reposts and 221,000 likes in two days (shown below).

Others argued that Nikocado Avocado's past activities online did not fit into his narrative and that he was trying to spin his past situation. For example, on September 7th, X^[7] user @DewEnjoyer made a post bringing attention to Nikocado Avocado's Coinslot photograph that received over 9,400 reposts and 220,000 likes in two days (shown below).

Several posts reminding others of predictions made in the past that Nikocado's past person was an act or a social experiment went viral as word of the YouTuber's weight loss continued spreading (example^[8] shown below).

Various memes about the development also went viral on X / Twitter in early September 2024. On YouTube, numerous videos about Nikocado Avocado's "Two Steps Ahead" reveal were posted. For example, on September 7th, 2024, YouTuber^[9] Cr1TiKaL posted a video that gained over 7.6 million views in two days (shown below).

In the days after the reveal, numerous memes were posted to Reddit referencing Nikocado Avocado's weight loss.^[10]^[11] For example, on September 7th, Redditor jp712345 posted a We Got X Before GTA 6 meme featuring the "Two Steps Ahead" YouTube video to the /r/memes^[12] subreddit, which received over 7,100 upvotes and 450 comments prior to its removal by mods (seen below).
