History

On July 18th, 2018, the Ice Falkirk ice cream shop posted on Instagram [1] an image of mayonnaise ice cream that they had developed. They captioned the image "Who knows a mayo addict?
#mayonnaise #foodporn #weird #icecream #icefalkirk #foodie #yesorno." The post (shown below) received more than 170 likes in two weeks.

On July 25th, a Twitter user tweeted at Miracle Whip regarding the ice cream. Miarcle Whip responded with an animation of someone putting Miracle Whip on ice cream. They wrote, "Mayo ice cream??? Ridiculous. Miracle Whip ice cream though…"

Food & Wine Tweet

On July 25th, 2018, the Twitter [2] account for Food & Wine magazine tweeted a link to an article about the ice cream. They wrote, "Mayonnaise is the most controversial ice cream flavor: https://trib.al/jUQPhOl." The post (shown below, left) received more than 800 retweets and 1,500 likes in two days.

That day, people shared the article and added jokes about the ice cream. Television host Desus Nice tweeted,[3] "everyday and in everyway we stray further from god's light."

Twitter[4] user @EscoBlades referenced the red liquid in the tweet, "CLOSE THE SARCOPHAGUS." The post (shown below, right) received more than 11,000 retweets and 47,000 likes in two days.
