Overview

Lindsay Ellis' Moviebob Snub refers to YouTuber Lindsay Ellis chastising Bob Chipman, aka Moviebob, for what she called creepy behavior after Chipman posted a selfie the two of them took together. Ellis says she had "soft-blocked" him several times, and Chipman had always refollowed her. She asked him to leave her alone. The interaction led Chipman to lock his account while internet users joked about the way Ellis had shut him down.

Background

On November 10th, 2020, YouTuber Lindsay Ellis was in a Twitter thread with other YouTubers joking about how they'd been blocked by YouTuber Peter Coffin. At one point Ellis remarked on how Coffin was trying to mock several YouTubers for having a group chat, and said "I’ve uncovered the conspiracy of… people being friends with their peers."[1] Bob Chipman responded to her tweet posting a selfie of himself and Ellis together, saying "I for one am positively shocked!" Ellis responded with, "this is honestly really inappropriate and creepy dude. a selfie at a con several years ago does not mean we are friends. also the fact that I have soft blocked you like six times and you always refollow is creepy. take the hint, and please leave me alone."[2]

Developments

Chipman tweeted that he felt "borderline gaslighted" by the interaction before protecting his tweets (shown below, left). Ellis[3] tweeted that she would not apologize for publically calling out Chipman after years of making her feel uncomfortable and trying to project that the two had some sort of relationship.

The micro-drama was celebrated online due in large part to the unfavorable opinion people harbor towards Chipman. User @FireballForeskn tweeted a clip from The Simpsons comparing Chipman to Ralph Wiggum and Ellis to Lisa, gaining over 130 retweets and 720 likes (shown below, top). YouTuber TheQuartering posted a video about the incident, gaining over 64,000 views in one day (shown below, bottom).

Twitter user @Tmann6[4] tweeted that Ellis had "destroyed (Chipman) beyond repair," gaining over 300 retweets and 2,900 likes (shown below, left). User @soopergoose187[5] tweeted that the incident was "on brand" for Chipman but noted that Ellis is rumored to have a history of being a "fake friend" (shown below, right).
