Overview

Kim Jong-un's Visit to South Korea refers to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's visit to meet South Korean President Moon Jae-in to discuss bringing a formal end to the Korean War in late April 2018.

Background

On April 27th, 2018, Kim Jong-un traveled to South Korea to attend a summit meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in. During the meeting, the two agreed to remove nuclear weapons from the Korean Peninsula over the course of the next year and declare an end to the Korean War, with each leader signing the Panmunjom Declaration for Peace, Prosperity and Unification of the Korean Peninsula. The event marked the first time a North Korean leader had visited South Korea since the beginning of the Korean War.

That day, Redditor NSA-Surveillance submitted a photo of the Korean leaders captioned with an Infinity War Crossover joke (shown below, left). Three hours later, Redditor i-var posted a photograph of the two holding hands titled "When bae takes you for a walk" (shown below, right). Within 24 hours, the posts garnered more than 1,100 points (96% upvoted) and 5,400 points (98% upvoted) respectively.

Meanwhile, a video clip of Jong-un's guards running alongside his limousine reached the front page of /r/gifs,[3] gathering more than 80,300 points (96% upvoted) and 3,300 comments within six hours (shown below).
