Overview

Joker Police Chase refers to the chase and arrest of a man in Orange County dressed as Batman villain The Joker. The man was caught when he stopped at a beach to help a group of people bury their friend in sand.

Background

On July 22nd, 2019, police in Orange County, California, began a lengthy car chase in an attempt to pull over a man driving in an aggressive manor, with half his body out of the car's sunroof and making vulgar gestures while wearing a Joker mask.[1] After abandoning the vehicle, the perpetrator ran to a beach to help a group of people bury their friend in the sand before laying down and being arrested. Footage of the chase was caught by KRON4 (shown below).

Twitter user @Rainneeeyy tweeted footage of the arrest she took showing the moment the man surrendered to the police (shown below).

Developments

Comicbook.com was able to identify the mask as having come from "one that came packaged with a trade paperback collection of Batman: Death of the Family."[1] They also noted that the passenger of the car was detained and not arrested. Police have not specified what charges the man is facing.[3] The chase was covered by multiple news outlets including eBaum's World[2] and ABC.[3] The video was joked about in /r/GamersRiseUp[4] in a post by user clangprime (shown below).
