Jessica Yaniv Brazilian Wax Controversy refers to complaints filed by transgender activist Jessica Yaniv against salons in Vancouver, British Columbia that refused to wax her genitalia.

Background

On November 6th, 2018, The Post Millennial[2] published an article titled "16 Vancouver women facing human rights complaints for refusing to wax transgender woman’s male genitalia." The article reported that a person identified only as "JY" went to "16 Vancouver-area female estheticians" to request bikini wax services and had filed complaints against women at the BC Human Rights Tribunal for denying service.

Developments

On November 9th, a Kiwi Farms[1] thread about Yaniv was created. The thread contained screenshots of various Facebook posts and messages, claiming they had been written by Yaniv.

On January 15th, 2019, Lindsay Shepherd uploaded a video about Yaniv titled "The Tampon String Enthusiast of British Columbia" (shown below).

British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal

On July 18th, 2019, YouTuber John southern uploaded a clip in which Yaniv questions her mother during the tribunal (shown below).

That day, the news site National Post[5] published an article about the tribunal titled "Accusations fly at human rights hearing into transgender woman's Brazilian wax complaint," reporting that Yaniv compared a business owner who denied her waxing service to neo-Nazis. On July 23rd, Ebaum's World[6] published an article about the controversy titled "Trans Activist With Questionable Past Sues Brazilian Wax Shop For Denying Her Service."

Ricky Gervais Tweets

On July 21st, 2019, comedian Ricky Gervais post a tweet[3] about the controversy, saying "It is not a human right to have your meat & 2 veg polished" (shown below).

In several follow-up tweets,[4] Gervais highlighted a collection of social media posts allegedly written by Yaniv, asking about seeing women nude in gym locker rooms and instructing young girls on how to use tampons (shown below).

YouTube Reactions

On July 18th, 2019, YouTuber Lauren Chen uploaded a video criticizing Yaniv and Twitter for banning Lindsay Shepherd (shown below, left). On July 23rd, trans YouTuber Blaire White uploaded a video about Yaniv, referring to her as a "trans predator" (shown below, right).

InfoWars Appearance

On July 23rd, 2019, Yaniv broadcast herself being interviewed by Alex Jones on InfoWars (shown below). During the interview, Yaniv claimed that many of the social media screenshots attributed to her had been faked.
