Overview

Jeffree Star Kanye West Hookup Rumors refers to a rumor started by TikToker Ava Louise that social media personality Jeffree Star and rapper Kanye West hooked up a number of times, possibly resulting in his rumored divorce from Kim Kardashian.

Background

On January 6th, Ava Louise posted a video to TikTok^[1] in which she speaks over a Greenscreen of a Page Six report^[6] on Kim and Kanye's divorce, saying that she feels like now that they're getting divorced she can finally let go of some tea she's been holding onto, which she got from a "reliable source" (shown below). She then goes on to say that Kanye has been hooking up with a very famous male beauty guru. Although she doesn't explicitly namedrop Jeffree Star, she writes in the caption, "i can’t say WHO cuz he’ll sue me hint hint but it’s part of the reason Kanye’s so religious now it’s his self hatred …. my source is legit I promiss" which many saw as a reference to Star. The video gained over 7.5 million views in a day.

Louise posted a number of other videos regarding the rumor throughout the day, starting with one that theorizes that Kanye has internalized homophobia (shown below, left) and a duet with pattypopculture's video explaining the rumor (shown below, right). Each video received over 1.2 million views in a day.

Developments

On January 6th, 2020, Keemstar tweeted,^[2] "Reached out to Jeffree Star for a statement based on the allegations that he is hooking up with Kanye West. #DramaAlert 😂" along with a screenshot of a conversation between he and Star, where Star does not clear up the rumor (shown below, left). Minutes later, Keemstar commented a screenshot of lyrics from Jeffree Star's 2009 song "Bitch, Please!" to his post, which read, "Sucked off Kanye West now I'm one of the bros" (shown below, right).

Shortly after Ava Louise's video, pattypopculture uploaded a video explaining the rumor to TikTok,^[3] in which he backs up the rumor with evidence suggesting Kanye and Kim have been living apart for the past six months, and that both Jeffree and Kanye live in Wyoming. The video gained over 8.4 million views in a day. He posted a followup video later that day with more details on the controversy (shown below, right).

Later that day, Jeffree Star tweeted,^[5] "I'm ready for Sunday Service" along with a photograph of himself, referring to the rumors (shown below). The tweet gained over 75,000 likes and 16,500 retweets.

Trysteh posted a meme about the situation on January 6th,^[8] garnering over 540,000 likes and 61,000 retweets in 2 days (shown below).

Jeffree Star Denies Rumor

On January 7th, Jeffree Star released a video to YouTube^[7] titled "Addressing The Kanye Situation" where Star calls the rumor "dumb," with someone in the background of the video suggesting Ava Louise started the rumor for clout (shown below). Star goes on to say that he and Kanye have never hung out, but the rumor was "really funny" regardless. The video gained over 5.5 million views in a day.

Twitter users took to the comment section of Star's "Sunday Service" tweet to begin sharing memes about the event. For example, Kyliesbirkins commented,^[4] "when kim get u mf it's gonna be over for u" along with a clip from Keeping Up With the Kardashians of Kim fighting set to Spongebob music, garnering over 9,800 likes and 1,100 retweets (shown below).
