History

A Night to ReMEMEber

The annual HallowMeme party began as a one-time costume party co-hosted by the internet meme news sites Urlesque and Know Your Meme in New York City on June 1st, 2009. Dubbed "A Night to ReMEMEber," the social event drew dozens of guests who were dressed as viral video stars and internet memes, including Tron Guy, Daft Bodies, Grape Stomper Lady, Laser Portraits and Keyboard Cat among many others. The event was also recognized by the Universal Record Database (URDB) as the "Most Internet Meme Costumes Worn At A Party" with a total of 52 costumes.

HallowMeme Costume Party

Inspired by the turnout of "A Night to ReMEMEber," Know Your Meme and Urlesque teamed up again to organize the first annual HallowMeme party in New York City's Lower East Side on October 30th, 2009. The top three prizes for the best costumes went to a Three Wolf Moon group, a Keyboard & Cat couple and a man dressed as a series of tubes. Since then, the event has been held every year during the week of Halloween in various locations across the city.

Beginning with the third HallowMeme party in 2010, it has been organized and hosted by the Forced Meme Productions with sponsorship from a number of New York City-based internet companies, including Tumblr, BuzzFeed and Slacktory. The fifth annual HallowMeme costume party was held at The Bell House in Brooklyn on October 24th, 2013. The sixth annual Hallowmeme expanded into two events, one at the Silverlake Lounge in Los Angeles on October 23rd, followed by another at The Bell House in New York on October 30th.
