Overview

Frogan Hopes U.S. Military Soldiers Get PTSD Controversy refers to a viral video clip of Twitch streamer Frogan saying that she hopes American military soldiers return from combat with PTSD, excluding soldiers who reflect on their past war-related efforts and denounce them. The clip and her statements went viral in mid-October 2024 amid another controversy relating to Frogan's Sabra tier list video, which was seen by some as being antisemitic. The PTSD clip was defended by some but was largely criticized on social media, sparking calls for Twitch to ban Frogan from the platform. Following its virality, Frogan doubled down on her opinion during a stream, calling her take "based." She then posted an apology on X / Twitter, claiming she worded her opinion incorrectly and that "wishing people harm isn’t the best way to talk about these issues."

Background

On October 17th, 2024, YouTuber[1] n1ghtm4re uploaded a clip from one of Twitch streamer Frogan's recent streams (VOD not available) in which she says that she has "no pity at all for any fucking soldiers." She then says, "U.S. military, boo-fucking-hoo, I hope you get PTSD," and takes a bite of her food. She then says, "The ones I'm like, 'whatever' about, the U.S. soldiers, are the ones that acknowledge that what they did was wrong and they didn't know back then. Whatever, you're a good person in my book." She continues to make her point, claiming the soldiers who realize they were wrong, say "fuck imperialism," don't deserve the PTSD. She finishes the clip by saying, "I hope you get no health insurance when you get back into fucking America." The clip gained around 4,400 views and 40 comments in four days.

The clip went viral after it was reposted to X[2] by user @DrewPavlou on October 19th, 2024, who wrote, "Partnered Twitch Streamer @fr0gan proclaims that she hopes all American soldiers die or get PTSD She truly is disgusting. Amazon runs Twitch and Twitch frequently promotes her in ads," garnering over 15.9 million views, 35,000 likes, 7,000 reposts and 5,400 replies in two days.

Uh, based.' […] I'm not walking back on it, I still fucking agree with it."

Frogan's Apology

Later on October 20th, 2024, Frogan made a post on X[4] in which she apologized for how she worded her opinion in the viral clip, garnering over 1.9 million views, 5,400 likes and 2,100 reposts in a day, notably blocking users from replying to the post.

In the post, she claims that "the us military has conducted some of the most horrific crimes against humanity in the modern era in countries such as iraq, afghanistan, syria, lebanon, and palestine my anger is directed at individuals who are currently championing these war crimes as if they 'liberated' my people." She then apologizes for how she worded her take, writing, "i do not mean 'all' military, but specifically those with no remorse. what i said was out of frustration as they are currently bombing my family in the name of 'liberation.'" Finally, she writes that wishing harm on people "isn’t the best way to talk about these issues."
