Overview

Fortnite x Jujutsu Kaisen Crossover refers to the early August 2023 update release of Chapter 4: Season 3 of Fortnite in which characters from Jujutsu Kaisen like Satoru Gojo, Itadori and other characters became playable skins alongside others previously added like Goku and Naruto Uzumaki. Memes and viral clips using the characters in Fortnite became prevalent on Twitter, TikTok and Reddit following their debut.

Background

On August 1st, 2023, the official Fortnite Twitter[1] account released a teaser trailer for the latest anime crossover featuring some of Jujutsu Kaisen's main characters. The brief video (shown below) confirmed that several Jujutsu Kaisen sorcerers would soon be playable in the game. The video garnered over 4.8 million plays and 40,100 likes in a week.

The collab between Jujutsu Kaisen and Fortnite was set to release on August 8th, 2023, and includes Satoru Gojo, Itadori Yuji, Megumi and Nobara. The collab also features new cosmetic items and a questline event, as well as two new mythic items. On August 8th, the official Fortnite YouTube[2] channel released a trailer for the β€œBreak the Curse!” event, receiving over 614,000 views in three days (seen below).

The crossover event will end on August 25th, 2023, at 2 a.m. EST when Chapter 4: Season 3 concludes.

Online Reactions

In late July and early August 2023 when the crossover was first leaked, memetic reactions surfaced online. For example, on July 29th, 2023, Twitter[3] user @SLOplays tweeted (shown below, left), "Gojo's Hollow Purple better be a new mythic in Fortnite," garnering roughly 429 likes and 19 retweets in a week.

Leading up to the release in early August 2023, the memes became more apparent on social media. For instance, on August 8th, Twitter[4] user @Kuyroon tweeted (shown below, right), "I never thought I'd see the day when oomfs would simp over FORTNITE GOJO SATORU." The post garnered over 35 likes and one retweet in a week.

On the day of the collab's release, memes and clips featuring the characters populated social media. For example, Twitter[5] user kanekishellahot posted a video showcasing some emotes (dance moves) using Satoru Gojo skin (shown below). The post received over 46,800 views and 1,100 likes in a day.

Also, multiple TikTokers uploaded content about the Fortnite x Jujutsu Kaisen crossover. For example, on August 8th, Tiktoker[6] @sahhyameiii posted a gameplay featuring Nobara and Gojo (shown below, left), which garnered over 1.7 million plays and 273,000 likes in a day. On the same day, TikToker[7] luchiiiaana uploaded a video o Satoru Gojo dancing to Megan Thee Stallion's "Savage" music. The video (shown below, right) received more than 579,000 plays and 168,000 likes in a day.
