FIFA's The Best 2023 is an annual award ceremony to honor the most outstanding footballers in the world. The 2023 edition of the event occurred in Paris, France, on February 27th, 2023, and sports fans went wild on social media sharing memes and clips of the ceremony.

History

On February 27th, 2023, FIFA's The Best Awards^[1] were handed out in Paris, France to honor the most outstanding members of football over the last year. After Argentina's coronation in the Qatar 2022 World Cup, several of the awards went to the South American country. YouTube^[2] user @BLFootballTalks posted a video showing all the winners of the event, garnering 55,000 views and 1,100 likes.

Highlights

One of the highlights of the event was the many awards Argentina won, including Lionel Messi winning for the second time as the top men's player in the football world. This inspired many memes congratulating the South American country with the phrase “Argentina el mejor país del mundo,” which translates to "Argentina, best country in the world." Twitter^[3] user @gonzacarranzaa shared on February 27th, 2023, the many victories won by the country, garnering 93 likes and 10 retweets in a day.

The Twitter^[4] account @ESPNFC showed Messi's participation in the award show over the years, garnering 30,800 likes and 2,149 retweets in four hours (seen below).

Argentinians also won an award for the best football fans. TikTok^[5] user @_ney.fvx showed the moment in which an Argentinian fan received the award. The post (below, left) garnered 1,368 plays and 292 likes in a day. TikTok^[6] user its_jahid10 also posted a video celebrating some of the awards won that night.
