Overview
The Death of Jacob Rothschild refers to the passing of Jacob Rothschild, 4th Baron Rothschild and the man behind many of the conspiracy theories associated with schizoposting that spawned its own system of memes like Blaming The Rothschilds, which was announced on February 26th, 2024. In the aftermath of the death announcement, many memes started to be made celebrating his death (similar to when Henry Kissinger died) while others began to create more schizo threads, discussions and other discourse surrounding the billionaire.
Background
On February 26th, 2024, reports began to circulate that Jacob Rothschild had died at the age of 87. The reports of his death were rapidly filled with people expressing their feelings about him, with a heavy consideration being on his family's part in the creation of Israel and using his death announcement as a way to further the conversation around Palestine, as seen in the post on X by user @ShaykhSulaiman[1] (shown below).
As the news of his death continued to spread, people continued to create a link between the Rothschilds and the Palestinian conflict, with old interviews and news stories being posted that supposedly connect the two.
On February 26th, 2024, X user @Resist_05[2] uploaded a segment of an interview in which Jacob Rothschild recollects the creation of the Balfour document and the letter that started it all, penned towards his father, with the caption calling out the family and accusing them of many issues (shown below).
Online Reactions
Online, the reactions to Jacob Rothschild's death were immediate and varied. While there were many posts in celebration of his death, for one of many different reasons that link back to society and schizoposting, some were defending Rothschild for his philanthropic work and use of money in arts and culture.
On February 26th, 2024, X user @adammaanit[3] uploaded a screenshot of the trending tab, showing over 20,700 posts had been made shortly after his death, claiming that Rothschild is only trending due to antisemites (shown below).
Due to his death becoming a trending topic, many content creators began to create breakdowns of different conspiracy theories that involved Jacob Rothschild. On February 26th, the TikToker Shipwreck_Show[4] created a TikTok in which they dive into some of the bigger and more well-known parts of the Rothschild mythos, receiving over 100,000 views, 8,500 likes and 1,100 comments in six hours (shown below).
Also on February 26th, a post discussing his death was made on the /r/conspiracy[5] subreddit, receiving over 670 upvotes and 100 comments in nine hours. Many of the top-voted comments on the post negatively comment on or celebrate his death.
