Overview
Dacapo VTuber Concert refers to Thai VTuber Dacapo's performance at the 2023 Bangkok Cosplay Art Festival in late June and early July 2023. A video of Dacapo's VTuber persona delivering a rendition of Fuji Kaze's song Shinunoga E-Wa was widely shared on TikTok and Twitter in early July, with people commenting on the simple animation style despite the "VTuber Concert" supposedly costing $300. Various TikTokers made videos and memes mimicking and mocking Dacapo's animation, while others defended concert-goers by clarifying that Dacapo's performance was free, while the event hosting cost 300 Baht (approximately $9).
Background
Dacapo is the most-subscribed member of the Thai Virtual Talent Agency "Algorhythm Project."[1] Between June 30th and July 2nd, 2023, the Thailand Cultural Arts Center hosted the 2023 Cosplay Art Festival,[2] which featured several VTuber performances. This included a pre-recorded performance by VTuber Dacapo, which was uploaded to YouTube[3] on July 4th, gathering over 340,000 views in a week (seen below).
On July 5th, TikToker @tuesday.18 posted the earliest known clip of the video being played at the Festival.[4] While the original upload has since been deleted, it was reuploaded by TikToker[5] @neneluvsjisung on July 9th, 2023. The footage shows attendees at the concert cheering during Dacapo's performance, and clapping when he lifts his hair to show his eyes.

The video was reuploaded to Twitter on July 8th, gathering over 100,000 likes in three days (seen below).

$300 Concert Misinformation
Several TikTokers also began sharing misinformation about the event by saying that Dacapo's performance was a $300 concert. TikTokers @h0lyth0ts and @_.genoa._ posted videos saying this on July 8th, 2023.[10][11]
On July 9th, Twitter[12] user @Tyler_462 posted a tweet correcting some of the misinformation being spread about the viral video, saying, "The amount of people on TikTok cooking this guy singing at a Thai concert event that cost 9 USD bc they canβt understand different world currencies is crazy. / Whatβs more, the concert was actually free, with the con itself being 9 bucks. / Let people have fun."
