Creators Live was a TikTok and social media fan event held in Branson, Missouri on June 21st, 2020. Despite some concerns over the spread of the coronavirus, organizers delayed the event by three weeks, Some criticized the organizers for the lack of social distancing or recommended safety measures at the event, which some criticized as dangerous. The event consisted of meet-and-greets between TikTokers and fans, as well as some performances by TikTokers.
Background
On January 27th, 2020, the Creators Live official Instagram[1] account announced the event. They wrote, "we’re bringing your favorite creators live this june 4th in branson, missouri. who do YOU want to see? tag them down below." The post received more than 800 likes in less than six months (shown below).
Developments
Postponement
On April 13th, 2020, the official Creators Live Instagram account posted that the event had been moved to June 20th, 2020. They wrote,[2] "As we're sure you're aware, the coronavirus pandemic continues to impact our lives. We want to inform you that we are rescheduling our event to June 20, 2020. Don't worry--our event is still taking place in Branson at the Welk Resort Theatre." The post received more than 730 likes in less than three months (shown below).
Event
Creators Live took place on June 20th, 2020 in Branson, Missouri. On June 22nd, 2020, the account posted a recap video of the event. The post received more than 11,000 views and 4,500 likes in less than 24 hours (shown below).
Criticism
On June 22nd, 2020, YouTuber EricMoranFilms published a video about the event, criticizing the event for not taking the proper safety precautions as recommended by the Center for Disease Control (shown below).
The following day, New York Times journalist Taylor Lorenz tweeted '[3] the video and wrote, "TikTokers had a big meet and greet event called "Creators Live" in Missouri the midst of the pandemic with no safety precautions at all, no mask requirement, and no social distancing. Just so wholly irresponsible" (shown below).
