Overview

Citayam Fashion Week refers to an unofficial fashion show held at Sudirman, Jakarta, Indonesia once each week. At the show, young people show off their fashion style.

Background

On July 5th, 2022, TikTok^[1] user @KutipanX uploaded a video about interviewing couples on dates around Sudirman, Jakarta. One of the couples is a boy named Bonge and his girlfriend named Kurma. In the interview, Bonge claims that he started dating Kurma after he saw her on the street looking stylish. The video received more than 74 million views in two weeks (shown below).

After KutipanX's video became popular, according to IDN Times^[2], many young people visited Sudirman, known as SCBD (Sudirman Central Business District) to show off their clothes, often walking on a specific crosswalk. The SCBD abbreviation has been parodied to read "Sudirman, Citayam, Bojonggede, and Depok" (examples shown below).

Online Reactions

On July 11th, 2022, Twitter^[3] user @TokyoFashion retweeted @sofiaflorina's tweet appreciating people who show off their styles at Sudirman. The tweet received more than 22,900 likes and 6,000 retweets in two weeks (shown below).

Some politicians visited the location. For example on July 18th, 2022, the governor of Jakarta, Anies Baswedan uploaded photos from his official Instagram^[4] visiting SCBD and doing the catwalk with EU Ambassador H.E, Vincent Piket, and European Investment Bank Vice President Kris Peeters. The post received more than 43,000 likes in three days (shown below, left). On the next day, the governor of West Java, Ridwan Kamil uploaded a video to his official Instagram^[5] showing himself visiting the same location and doing the catwalk with several people. The post received more than 627,000 likes in two days (shown below, right).

Several Indonesian influencers also visited the location. For example on July 15th, 2022, Ria Ricis via her official YouTube^[6] channel uploaded video of herself visiting SCBD to meet Bonge. The video received more than 1.5 million views in one week (shown below, left). On July 19th, 2022, Baim Paula via his YouTube^[7] official channel uploaded video of himself doing a runway walk with Bonge. The video received more than 3.2 million views in three days (shown below, right).

On July 21st, 2022, Indonesian webcomic "KOSTUM (komik strip untuk umum)" uploaded the meme Oh? You Approaching Me? about Bonge vs. Jeje at the Citayam Fashion Week via their Facebook ^[8] page. The post received more than 2,500 reactions and 326 shares in two days (shown below).
