Overview

Cards Against Humanity Suing Elon Musk, also known as the Cards Against Humanity Elon Musk Lawsuit, refers to legal action taken by the card game company Cards Against Humanity (CAH) against SpaceX CEO Elon Musk in late September 2024. Cards Against Humanity claimed that Musk had destroyed land owned by the company along the U.S.-Mexico border that it bought in 2017 to thwart then-acting President Donald Trump’s border wall. Cards Against Humanity was suing Musk for $15 million. The company announced the lawsuit on Twitter / X and launched a website called elonowesyou100dollars.com that outlined the feud and upcoming legal action. Many users on X, Reddit and other platforms reacted to the news with memes and posts that championed Cards Against Humanity, while others criticized the company.

Background

In November 2017, the card game company Cards Against Humanity bought a strip of land on the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas in order to stop then-acting President Donald Trump's plan to build a wall along the border.[2][3]

Years later, on September 20th, 2024, Cards Against Humanity posted a tweet[1] that read, "7 years ago, we bought a plot of land on the US-Mexico border to stop racist billionaire Donald Trump’s dumb wall. But this year, an even richer, more racist billionaire—@ElonMusk—fucked that land with tractors and garbage, so we’re suing for $15 million." The tweet received over 1.1 million views and 30,000 likes in two days (shown below).

The tweet above included a link to a website called elonowesyou100dollars.com[4] created by Cards Against Humanity to house info about their lawsuit. The company claimed that Musk's SpaceX began dumping supplies and destroying the land with tractors. Cards Against Humanity also claimed that "SpaceX gave us a 12-hour ultimatum to accept a lowball offer for less than half our land’s value."
