Overview

ballslover32 is a Twitter user who in March 2022 quote tweeted popular Minecraft YouTuber Dream, with Dream then replying to them and calling them a dweeb. The fact of the YouTuber arguing with a person named "ballslover32" attracted online attention, with users on Twitter creating memes calling out Dream and supporting @ballslover32 in the following week.

Background

On March 15th, 2022, YouTuber Dream tweeted[1] about people "who hate on the Dream Team community" over it having "toxic shippers," claiming he himself has been joking about shipping himself with his friends. On the same day, Twitter[2] user @ballslover32 quote tweeted Dream's tweet with a Hannibal fancam, writing, "this is so embarassing. if i ever get famous and become like this put a bullet between mh eyes." The tweet gained over 570 retweets and 6,200 likes in one week. Later on the same day, Dream replied[3] to @ballover32's tweet, writing, "that would require you to have a personality other than spreading hate on the internet you dweeb." The tweet gained over 1,000 retweets, 2,300 quote tweets and 41,000 likes in the same period (exchage shown below).

Developments

Later on March 15th, 2022, Twitter[4] user @RIIAMU highlighted that Dream was apparently arguing on Twitter with a person named "ballslover32," with the post gaining over 4,500 retweets and 20,800 likes in one week (shown below, left). On March 16th, 2022, as the exchange drew initial attraction, Twitter[5][6] users @TheMulletBird and @weevil394 replied to it, with their tweets gaining over 160 retweets and 7,300 likes and 660 retweets and 7,800 likes in six days (shown below, center and right).

On March 17th, 2022, Twitter[7] user @jaubreyYT shared screenshots of the exchange between Dream and @ballslover32, writing, "Dude beefing with an account named "BallsLover32," with the post going viral and gaining over 8,300 retweets and 146,000 likes on Twitter in five days.

Following the viral spread of the exchange through screenshots, @ballslover32 temporarily disabled their Twitter account.[10]

Online Reactions

In the following days, the exchange attracted major attraction on Twitter, with users poking fun at Dream for arguing with a user named "balllover32," with some opining that Dream lost the argument just by doing that. The exchange became a subject of references in memes: for example, on March 19th, 2022, Twitter[8] user @RealYouTubeKids tweeted an image caption meme that gained over 8,000 retweets and 89,600 likes in three days. On March 20th, 2022, Twitter[9] usert @meme_boi_46290 posted an Average Fan vs. Average Enjoyer meme that gained over 410 retweets and 9,300 likes in two days (shown below, right).

On March 20th, 2022, @ballslover tweeted[11] a screenshot of a recent post made by Dream in which he expressed his love for all his followers, commenting, "apparently not me tho…" The post gained pver 7,000 retweets and 89,900 likes in two days (shown below).
